About Our Seedling Giveaway
Hedstrom Lumber Company has given out over 600,000 tree seedlings to Cook County property owners & renters since 1997. The Seedling Giveaway Program is a much-anticipated Cook County springtime event every year and for many folks, the event heralds the end of snow season and the beginning of the growing season!
A typical seedling is 6-12″ tall and includes a small soil plug to protect the roots.
Up to 100 seedlings per household are available to Cook County property owners and renters (mix and match varieties as you like). Seedlings are first-come, first serve and only online orders are allowed due to limited office staffing. We get the word out to the public in March about what is available and how to order. Seedlings are typically 100% spoken for by mid-April, and the pickup date is typically Friday of the first full week of May from 10am-4pm.
Due to limited staffing, we cannot take early orders, we cannot accommodate early pickups, and we cannot hold seedlings for later pickup. Sorry!
